Description

So. Normally I let HD versions of characters go until they come down in price a lot, because I just don't make use of them that much. (Although, that said, I've been using them a lot more with Iray, because the rendertime hit just isn't that much when you're looking at renders that might take hours anyway.) That said, the ones I'd planned to get relatively quickly after release of the characters were Lee, Kimo and Ivan. (One wonders if Kimo may be the character in his generation that either doesn't get HD morphs at all, or has them arrive surprisingly late. It's odd that all of the characters around him -- including Kalea -- have HD morphs, and he doesn't.)

The level of detail in Ivan's HD is astonishing. Most of the time, the details are at least somewhat subtle. Ivan's differences ... are not subtle. They're not on the same planet as subtle. (I genuinely had not noticed the smallpox vaccination scar on the standard definition character. I'm guessing it was part of the original photographic texture source, since it seems an odd detail to randomly include -- especially since it dates the character to a roughly 60-80 year window.)

OK, so a genuine question to those who might know: can you use main character HD morphs at partial values and still have them work? For example, if you dial, say, Ivan 7 HD in at 20% for Konstantin, does it do anything? Or do you need them to be 100%? Because, honestly, I'm not sure there are many characters that can tolerate Ivan's HD at full value besides Ivan.

Any road, I figure I haven't done a portrait-like image in ages, and since the point of this was to see the increased detail, I pulled off all the body hair except OhMyBrows and Miles Hair. It's also a tight enough focus that I can leave this unrestricted.
