Description

As mentioned earlier, the version of Cerise aimed initially at the younger market had to be reformulated to something lighter and less sexual. The first ad was also aimed directly at that youthful/young adult market.

CCO JAKE: We took Cerise back to the lab for this one. We cranked down the ripe fruit smell, pulled out the roses, added in cherry blossom instead of cherry. We also added in some lemongrass, verbena, and lime citrus to emphasize the difference and lightness, and to keep the cherry and floral aspects from being overpowering.
CCO JEFFREY: We kind of wanted this one to be almost more of a suggestion of a scent, compared to the other fragrance. Something with a lot less throw, so you'd need to be a bit closer to get more than a little whiff.
CCO JAKE: It really was a completely different scent, apart from the cherry base. Much much lighter. This one was more a daytime scent, something you could wear casually or to school or work or whatever, whereas the Intime version was pretty much a sort of ... date with intentions scent. In any event, since it was so much lighter, we just called it Cerise Légère, which just means Light Cherry. Gave it a different bottle, lighter color, green stopper instead of gold, but otherwise the same shape.
CCO JEFFREY: For the first ad, we used the same teens that we had for the Cerulean-poesie ad. Actually, Kari -- the girl in the white dress -- is Myra's oldest daughter. Keeping it all in the family, or something. Anyway, we brought back her and Ash, and added in some other people their age. Did the shoot for both print and video over at the university, in front of the tower where they have those cherry trees left from when that patch used to be a cherry orchard. Great time of year and everything. Anyway, we wanted the other girls to be reacting to Kari as though she'd just said some thing Scandalous -- that sort of "You did NOT just say that!" look. Sort of give the whole thing a tiny tiny bit of a sexy air, which people that age would appreciate. Ash, the guy from the Cerulean ad, would just be sort of looking at them through his sunglasses, just too damn cool for his own good, you know?
CCO JAKE: Légère actually did exactly what we wanted it to do, landed exactly with the right audience.  What we didn't anticipate was that it would on its own find a broader audience. We didn't think that older adults would like it -- too sweet and fruity, not complex enough, we thought.
CCO JEFFREY: Actually, we thought it was a complete sugar bomb, even though we tried to keep it away from that profile. Myra and Carmen said that it wasn't, and we trust them ... but it was still, in development, the sweetest scent we'd ever made. That's why we also packed so much citrus type stuff in, to counter that. Apparently, it worked.

Indeed, it did work. To the extent that it could be determined -- sales demographics are notoriously difficult to determine for any product -- Légère actually appealed just as strongly to the same adults that appreciated Intime, as a daytime version of the nighttime fragrance. Without the same sort of controversial ads, Légère still sold very well on its own terms, slightly better than the Intime version, once the controversy-spurred sales of the latter had died down.

Characters are, from left to right: Lee 6 Yasuo; FWArt Ash; LY Kari with Zev0 Growing Up for G2F; Rayne V6 with Zev0 Growing Up for G2F; Leena International Noelle with Zev0 Growing Up for Genesis. Set is a combination of the Romantique Tower from Renderosity, the ground plane from Merlin's Monument, Sunlight DS by Vince Bagna from RDNA, and Merlin's Trees. Beyond that, if there's something you're curious about, please ask.

Ligithing the scene did wind up being weirdly difficult. Almost everything wound up too dark to look like daylight, for some reason. Ash was also not meant to be wearing sunglasses, but Slosh's SPEX and I have a history of agreeing to disagree, at this point. (Not to say I don't like them, because I do, but figuring out how to get them to react to light, or not react to light, can be really puzzling. For example, I cranked reflection and refraction way down, almost to zero, for both sides of the lens on this. I think where things went weird is that where he's positioned, he's both being maybe shadowed by the tower a little, and also getting reflections of tree leaves in the lenses.)
